RUCKERSVILLE, Virginia – Following Nintendo’s announcement that it would be shutting down the Wii U and 3DS eShops by Nintendo, local retro gamer Drew Murphy would be spending one last happy and bittersweet day letting his beloved Wii U download all his favorite titles one last time before to let go.

“I would be sad to say goodbye to the little guy, but we all knew this day would come sooner or later,” Murphy said with a calm, resigned tone. “I will really miss him. Nobody understood it. Sure, he was clumsy and he had a bunch of weird quirks, but he had a lot of character! In the end, though, it’s better to let him go quietly than to drag things out further. It won’t be pretty once his memory starts to go away.

Murphy wistfully recalled past memories of downloading games with his Wii U as he watched the console’s download menu progress bars slowly activate for the last time.

Yoshi cookie already finished, it was fast! Brings back memories, eh mate? Well, I hope you saved some room for F-Zero X, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, and Mega Man 3 Battle Network! I can’t imagine a more fitting send-off than downloading all the classics, just like the good old days. And once you’re ready, we’ll factory reset you so you can head to the big refurbished GameStop console shelf in the sky. But let’s not think about it just yet… I love you, buddy.

At press time, Murphy expressed hope that he might have a few minutes left at the end of the day to play some of the games he had downloaded.
