Saturday’s Texas Longhorns baseball game against the Kansas Jayhawks could not be shown after the seventh inning on the Longhorn Network due to a fire in their production truck. Texas won the game by a score of 11-6 and earned a series sweep in the process.
Texas (39-17, 14-10 Big 12) has won eight of nine games since being swept by Oklahoma State the last weekend in April. Kansas (20-35, 4-20), meanwhile, ends the 2022 season on Saturday with Baylor locked in the eighth and final seed for next week’s Big 12 tournament at Globe Life Field in Arlington.
Going into the bottom of the seventh inning, Texas trailed 5-2. With the bases loaded, redshirt senior Skyler Messinger hit a grand slam on the senior day to give the Longhorns their first lead of the baseball game. Texas hit five home runs in the win and Jared Southard took the victory on the mound in relief.
This season, infielder Ivan Melendez leads the team in batting with a scorching .424 batting average, 28 home runs and 84 RBIs. Left-handed pitcher Pete Hansen is the team’s ace on the mound with a 9-1 record, a 3.28 ERA, 85 innings pitched, 95 strikeouts and a .95 WHIP.
