A man has been formally charged over a series of incidents in Melbourne in which a number of women were assaulted and their designer shoes were stolen.

Authorities say the man followed a 23-year-old woman down Batman Street before attacking her and stealing her shoes.

The man then fled in a vehicle.

The man was eventually taken into custody after raiding a property on January 26.

Police managed to locate the man with women’s sneakers and a taser.

The man was initially charged with theft, assault with intent to commit sexual assault and intentionally causing bodily harm, but police said the man next faced other charges.

“After further investigation, detectives have charged the man with four further robberies in which women were allegedly followed, assaulted and had their high-end shoes stolen,” Victoria Police said.

Police say the man was involved in other incidents in Springvale on Merton Street and around 10pm on July 19.and and another incident on Springvale Road on October 6and at 9:40 p.m.

The man is currently in custody and is due to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on April 21.
