More and more medical experts are calling for the creation of combined flu and Covid clinics to ease the pressure on emergency services.
Early detection of flu and Covid will help healthcare professionals provide better patient care and relieve pressure from an already overstretched healthcare system, health experts say.
According to infectious disease expert Paul Griffin, having a dual clinic for flu and Covid patients will help medical professionals provide more effective treatment.
“We have specific therapies for COVID and flu that are very different but very effective if given early,” he told Sofie Formica.

Dr Griffin said health experts are finding that influenza A is spreading twice as fast as originally thought.
“We’ve seen the number of cases really take off in the last three weeks and it’s a lot sooner than we would normally see,” he said.
“Last week we had seen more than double the number of cases we would normally have at this time of year.”
Health professionals are urging those who have not already done so to book in for a flu shot as soon as possible.
