T-Mobile’s new speeds with 5G technology allow users to download movies in just seconds. The company is now sharing its achievements with the world and how it was able to achieve speeds of 3 Gbps.

T-Mobile reaches network speeds of 3 Gbps for its users

The company comes from announcement a new step that he was able to take. The new step included combining three different channels of mid-band spectrum on its 5G network, resulting in network speeds of 3 Gbps for its users.

According to the story of The edgethe new speeds could be seen as more than just a stunt since the company has announced that it will be making this kind of technology available to customers later this year.

The new speeds are closer to mmWave technology

The new speeds would approach mmWave territory by reaching 3000 Mbps or 3 Gbps. This kind of speed would allow users to download a movie in just a few seconds.

Mid-band 5G is capable of up to 200Mbps and while it won’t come close to 3Gbps, it’s still considered a huge upgrade over current LTE speeds. T-Mobile is still making a few changes behind the curtain to provide a significant speed boost for everyone.

T-Mobile used three channels to achieve the new higher speeds

To be more specific, the carrier does this by aggregating in order to combine different types of spectrum bands. The company essentially combines two different 2.5GHz 5G channels in parts of its network.

The most recent speed tests include another third channel in the mix to provide the highest speeds. The results were a combination of three different channels working together to achieve the maximum speed of 3 Gbps.

Verizon did the same in 2020 reaching speeds of 4.2 Gbps

Using carrier aggregation (with T-Mobile’s own carriers), the company was able to show off some impressive network speeds. This, however, was described as nothing new since Verizon previously used this type of technology in order to achieve speeds of 4.2 Gbps with its 5G technology.

Verizon was able to do it in 2020 and now, two years later, T-Mobile has announced speeds of 3 Gbps. As reported on Fierce WirelessVerizon achieved these speeds by using carrier aggregation as well.

Samsung Galaxy S22 T-Mobile subscribers will be the first to use the technology

T-Mobile, however, says it’s the first company to use tri-carrier aggregation technology over a live, standalone 5G network “with an off-the-shelf device.” The device used was a Samsung Galaxy S22.

According to The Verge, T-Mobile subscribers with a Galaxy S22 will be considered the first to have access to this type of technology. Users of the Samsung device will be able to try out the unique type of 5G technology when it arrives later this year.
